The Yale School of Management Pre-MBA Leadership Program is a highly selective, two-week summer program aimed at college sophomores, juniors and seniors and recent college graduates from populations typically under-represented in management education. We introduce you to the fundamentals of management education and give you the tools necessary to hone your individual leadership skills.

This emphasis on leadership flows from the mission of the School of Management: to educate leaders for business and society. When you know how to inspire people, as well as manage capital, materials and ideas, you can become a more potent agent of change. After completing this program, you will return to your campus and your community with a (re)focused sense of purpose that can guide you for many years to come.

Whether or not you decide to pursue an MBA – at Yale or elsewhere – the Yale School of Management Pre-MBA Leadership Program will not only develop your practical knowledge of business and management, but also inspire you to develop and draw upon your leadership abilities in order to make a positive impact – in your personal and professional endeavors, and in the life of your community.

WHO?  The Pre-MBA Leadership Program is tailored toward current college sophomores, juniors and seniors and recent college graduates from populations typically under-represented in management education and those from non-traditional pre-MBA academic tracks. We strongly encourage students from the liberal arts, science and engineering fields to apply.

All applicants must demonstrate strong leadership potential and a commitment to diversity and inclusion in school and in the workplace. Competitive applicants will also show their interest in exploring the possibilities of MBA study.

WHEN?  The 2013 program will be held from Sunday, June 9, 2013 - Saturday, June 22, 2013

WHERE?  The Program will be held on the Yale School of Management Campus in New Haven, Connecticut. Students will stay in a Yale residence colleges with fellow Pre-MBA Leadership Program attendees and attend classes in the Yale School of Management facilities.

COST?  Tuition, all program materials, housing and most meals will be covered by the Yale School of Management. Students will be required to send a $250 deposit in order to enroll in the program, but the full amount will be refunded upon successful completion of the Program. Students are required to cover the cost of their travel to and from New Haven, as well as a few meals and incidental expenses.

WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR? In the past, the Global Pre-MBA Leadership Program attracted underrepresented minority students with great promise to expose them to top post-graduate management education. In keeping with Yale’s School of Management’s(SOM’s) goal to become the most distinctively global U.S. business school, we are broadening the candidate pool to include international students from countries and regions traditionally underrepresented in top U.S. MBA programs. Africa is a priority in this respect.

BENEFITS The program teaches students the fundamentals of management and strengthens their leadership skills. Many of Yale SOM’s top faculty members are involved. It takes place from June 9-22 in New Haven.

SPONSOR Goldman Sachs generously sponsors the program and will pay the tuition for all participants.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
In addition to strong academic credentials, we are looking for students who: (1) have demonstrated a great ability to engage with others; and (2) have excellent command of English. The program targets students without a business background who are interested in exploring the possibilities of MBA study. However, students with a business background are not excluded from applying.
